June 10 From the POA Attached are the forms for the Early Morning Beach Sweep Initiative to keep the beaches as clean as possible. Basically, the purpose of this ongoing "spotters" program is to have local volunteers patrol the beaches before 7 a.m. and identify locations of oil, mousse and tarballs washed ashore. When found, the volunteer would call Mobile Incident Command Center at phone number (251) 445-3166 or 3333 to report so that they can insure the oil/mousse/tar swift removal before any beach goers/tourists arrive.
I have attached the data sheet that the volunteer would fill out and the beach sweep guidelines for Baldwin County (these will have to be modified for DI effort). BP can provide a certain number of GPS units/cameras so that volunteers can provide latitude and longitude for anything found. Attachments:
Hurricanes and the Oil Spill
What will the hurricane do to the oil slick in the Gulf?
• The high winds and seas will mix and “weather” the oil which can help
accelerate the biodegradation process.
• Movement of oil would depend great
ly on the track of the hurricane.
• Storms’ surges may carry oil into the coastline and inland as far as
the surge reaches. Debris resulting from the hurricane may be
contaminated by oil from the Deepwater Horizon incident, but also from
other oil releases that may occur during the storm.
