  • May 7, 2005 - All businesses are open, Billy Goat hole is up and running, the bike path looks great and the Fort and Estuarium are doing great business. Most of the West End is repaired. The marina looks like a small disaster area temporarily. They tore down the dry boat storage building and had to dredge up all the debris in the surrounding water. The marina's repair should be done by Summer. The charter boats are up and running from the marina. Click here to see some of the pictures I took today while driving down to the West End.

  • May 6th, 2005 - WHAT A DIFFERENCE SOME TIME MAKES!!!! The houses are back...... Where are you?

  • December 1st - • Protected bird won't block Dauphin Island berm - Todays article in the Mobile Press Register.

  • November 30th - New Photo Updates of West End Streets

  • November 30th -  Mighty bird - What next?! click on link to read the Mobile Press Register article explaining how a little bird called the piping plover is creating problems with restoring our beaches. (You may want to take a Tylenol first!)

  • November 20th - Sand is being moved from right of ways back to beach!  Road block plans changed somewhat.  Flag personnel are located before and after the work area to control traffic flow around the bulldozers.  When possible, traffic is being detoured to Cadillac.  The current detour begins at Penicault  Ct and runs to Port Royal.  If you need to access the Boardwalk Realty office, just park in our rear parking area and come around front.  Pictures of Sand Removal Process

  • November 11th - The actual date for the road block on the west end and sand removal is still iffy. We will post asap when we find out. Brad will be out of town until Wednesday 11/17. There will be no updates until then.

  • November 2nd - The road block will be re-established on the West End at Rafael Semmes. This is to decrease traffic during sand removal.

  • October  21st - Island mostly cleared of hurricane debris
Contractors have pretty much cleared hurricane debris off Dauphin Island, according to the latest figures from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

  • Wednesday 10/13 - FEMA Public Meeting Notes, TONS OF INFO

  • FEMA Q&A from Mobile Register

  • Some questions and their answers about the FEMA process

  • Friday 10/8 - A meeting will be held October 13th concerning FEMA, floods, sand, etc. It will be held at TOWN HALL

  • Sunday 10/3 -  The check point on the west end has been taken down and the law enforcement posture is slowly returning to normal. A contractor has been hard at work clearing the piles of natural debris from the right-of-ways. They will make a total of two sweeps throughout the Island. THEY WILL ONLY PICK UP PILES OF DEBRIS THAT CONTAIN LEAVES, LIMBS OR TREES. Keep you household trash separate. There are several dumpsters located at the Marina to place household debris. I have placed several new pictures from the Marina and a Pier Picture I found on the BBS.

  • Wednesday 9/29 - We have been told by Edie at Water and Sewer that if you have water running to your house it is safe to drink. The checkpoint a the bridge has been broken down. The only checkpoint is going to the West End past Boardwalk's parking lot and it may be there for sometime to come. If you are scheduled to come in to a rental please contact Beth or Mary Jim at 877-861-3992.

  • Monday 9/27 - Today was my first day back at my fire station in Mobile. Beth is still running around on the 4-wheeler meeting with adjusters and contractors for our client's houses. Power has reached Spanish Ct. Most people will not have power until their meter can and outside electrical in installed and inspected. Water and sewer will still be awhile since it is a real mess thanks to Ivan. I just posted about 25 pictures here.

  • Sunday 9/26 -  As you can see the updates are starting to space out because the progress has become less dynamic but still continues. Boardwalk Clients will be sent their loss of income reports via the US Mail next week to file with their insurance carrier. All of the court streets on the west end have been cleared where the pavement still exists. The contractor is now widening the roads to allow 2 lane traffic nearly everywhere. Water and Sewer has moved the boil water advisory to Pirates Cove which is good news for the office. Adjusters have slowly started to come to the office and check out keys. Yesterday was a very busy day in other ways. I (Brad) spent most of the day at the fire station. We had to inventory all of the equipment and supplies that we damaged while there was 18" of water in the station. Also our Fire Flash Simulator arrived from California. It is a 3 room "training center" built inside of a 53' 18 wheeler and will allow us to safely train firefighter throughout the county in live fire fighting situations. It is the pinnacle of the 2003 Assistance to Firefighters Grant we were awarded from FEMA. We will be having a big ribbon cutting ceremony sometime in October.

  • Thursday 9/23 - They have cleared Bienville Blvd all the way down to West Wind (the end) and will eventually haul off the sand to the airport for "sifting" and then clearing the courts. Lat night we got power at the house and today there is power to the office. The Boiling Water has been moved to areas west of Salt Creek. The National Guard was handing out only ice and water, no more MREs. I would now expect that with basic services returning the National Guards days are numbered. It is still refreshing to see all of the Law Enforcement. Their presence has decrease the illegal moving of sand we saw after Georges.

  • Tuesday 9/21 -  Bienville has been cleared to 2617 Bienville and they are moving very fast. Warning Signs have been posted on many of the houses on the West End. These signs warn that the house is not livable since it does not have water or sewer. We got into many of the houses today and inside pictures have been posted. Beef Stew was being served by the Salvation Army Tonight and Chicken and Rice was for lunch, not bad.

  • Monday 9/20 -  More pictures added todayThere is now phone service to most of the Island east of the office and power is being turned on block by block. Sand has been removed from Bienville all of the way to 2429 Bienville as of 7pm. None of the court streets have been cleared yet. The Town has requested that you stay on the road as much as possible to avoid breaking any exposed sewer and water lines. The Town has also placed dumpsters at the DI Marina for household trash only. Hurricane debris should be placed on the right-of-way for later pick up. There has been a dramatic increase in the number of Law Enforcement  officials on the Island. They include DIPD, State Troopers, Florence, AL PD, Homewood PD, Muscle Shoals, Conservation Dept, Fish and Wildlife and Alabama Marine Police. Chili was being served by the Salvation Army Tonight

  • Sunday 9/19- POTUS George Bush Flew Marine 1 over DI today. We have seen Alabama Power, Corps of Engineers and various contractors sizing up the situation. There are tons of rumors about when there will be power, phone, etc. I will believe it when I see it. I got a lot of pictures from the Town and I have posted them here EAST ENDWEST END. IF YOU HAVE RUNNING WATER YOU MUST BOIL IT BEFORE DRINKING IT. Power is being restored to parts of the village right not and the rest of the Island will follow grid by grid. They expect to move the west end check point to Rafael Semmes Monday because the Corps of Engineers have started clearing in front of the office at a brisk pace. Must get some sleep. BTW The salvation army has been serving great meals and the Nat'l Guard has been handing out MREs, water and ice. There has been an individual trying to sell flood insurance on the east end targeting the elderly. He asks for a $500 down payment. NOTIFY DIPD ASAP if you see him. Also, do not contract anybody to do work if they do not have a business license. Possession of a license is not a fool proof way to avoid getting ripped of but it is a little help. Hot Dogs were being served by the Salvation Army Tonight.

  • Saturday 9/18 – We were back in the office and open for business yesterday. There is no power, spotty running water on the east end, no phone and POOR cell phone coverage. We have been able to go to the west end and it was devastated. Look at the pictures. We are in the process of calling all of our owners after looking around every structure. We will be starting to go inside tonight. Corps of Engineers is looking at the West End thinking about debris removal. Mobile is still without power in many places and many estimates for us is two weeks. Water and Ice is being handed out at town hall. I hope to do more updates Sunday.
